Hotel Atlântico Tower

★★★

Right in Rio's historic Centro, 50 metres from Praça Tiradentes and 700 from the Arcos da Lapa. Rooftop pool and bar, gym, two in-house restaurants, and Santos Dumont airport 2.3 km away.

A building with history, in the heart of Centro

The Atlântico Tower occupies a curved art deco corner building on Rua Pedro Primeiro, fifty metres from Praça Tiradentes. It used to be called Rio's Presidente: it changed its name, not its location or its staff, and kept the 17,000+ reviews it built up along the way.

What guests rate highest is exactly where it is —7.9 for location— and who looks after them —7.7 for staff—. Upstairs there's an outdoor pool with a view of the buildings, a rooftop bar and a gym; downstairs, two in-house restaurants and parking, which in downtown Rio is no small thing.

Rio is warm all year round. December to March is summer, with humid heat, New Year's Eve in Copacabana and Carnival; June to August is the carioca winter, drier and milder, and when the hotel is cheapest.

Has a gym, pool and restaurant for dinner. Super affordable prices, spectacular service. I went to Rio alone and there was an Argentinian at the front desk: we got along great. I'll be back.

Good location, excellent front desk service, very good breakfast and a very good pool. What I didn't like: a lot of street noise at night.

Clean, comfortable rooms, close to everything. What I didn't like: the pool should stay open later.

What's worth knowing before you book

We'd rather tell you ourselves than have you find out on arrival. All of this comes from real reviews and Booking's own ratings.

🔊

Noise is the most common complaint

Three out of ten reviews mention it: street noise at night, footsteps from the floor above, or the neighbouring bathroom's flush. It's an old building right in Centro. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room on a high floor facing inward.

📶

WiFi is the weak point

It scores 5.8 out of 10, well below the rest of the hotel (which averages 7.2). Fine for messaging and browsing; don't count on it for video work.

🏊

The pool closes early

Several reviews ask for later hours. Check the schedule at check-in.

🏙️

It's Centro, not the beach

By day, Centro is Rio's cultural heart; at night it's an office district and empties out, except for Lapa. For getting back late, take a taxi or a ride-hailing app.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Hotel Atlântico Tower on the beach?

No. It's in Rio's historic Centro, 50 metres from Praça Tiradentes. The closest beach is Flamengo, 3 km away; Copacabana is about 8 km away. In exchange, you get Lapa 700 metres away, the Escadaria Selarón 1.2 km away, and Santos Dumont airport 2.3 km away.

Is breakfast included?

Yes, on most rates, and Booking rates it “good”. It's still worth checking what your specific rate includes before booking.

Is there a pool?

Yes, outdoors on the rooftop, with a waterfall feature and a view of Centro's buildings. Several reviews ask for later closing hours: if the pool matters to you, ask about the schedule on arrival.

How do I get there from the airport?

Santos Dumont (domestic flights) is 2.3 km away, about a 10-minute taxi ride. Galeão (international) is 15 km away. Cinelândia metro station is 850 metres from the hotel.

Is parking available?

Yes, the hotel has private parking, which is uncommon in downtown Rio.

What languages does the staff speak?

The hotel states on Booking that Portuguese, Spanish and English are spoken.

Why does it show up on Booking as Rio's Presidente?

Because that's the hotel's former name: it was renamed Atlântico Tower and kept its 17,000+ reviews. It's the same hotel, at the same address.
